About Mingzhen Wei

Dr. Mingzhen Wei is an associate professor in Petroleum Engineering in the department of Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering, Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri--Rolla). Dr. Wei received her Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, and she received her master and bachelor degrees in Petroleum Engineering from China University of Petroleum, China. Her research interests include data mining and data quality enhancement, application development to support digital oilfield initiations, and reservoir engineering study for unconventional oil and gas development. Her teaching interests include reservoir simulation, natural gas engineering, and advanced applied reservoir engineering.

Dr. Wei is the 2018 CEC Dean’s Scholar in recognition of work that uses machine learning, neural networks and artificial intelligence to address the challenges of her discipline.

Dr. Wei's research interests include Unconventional resources including shale oil and gas, tight oil and gas; Reservoir simulation on unconventional resources and enhanced oil recovery mechanisms; Data integration and analytics; Applications of artificial intelligent methods on oil and gas problems.

Dr. Wei was promoted to associate professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering with tenure effective Sep 1, 2018.
