About Mireya Vilar-Compte

Dr. Mireya Vilar-Compte, who received her PhD from the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University in May 2010, joins the Department of Public Health after being an Associate Professor at the Research Centre for Equitable Development at the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico City), and a Research Fellow at the Yale School of Public Health. Dr. Vilar-Compte’s work focuses on health inequities and early life health determinants, and the translation of this research into feasible and evidence-based interventions. She has performed research in areas such as breastfeeding, food insecurity, mHealth, and early nutrition environments, amongst others, and has more than 40 peer reviewed publications. Her research has been funded by national and international agencies, and she has extensively worked in liaison with international agencies. Dr. Vilar-Compte serves as an associate editor of the International Journal for Equity in Health.
