Abstract
This paper investigates effects of study-abroad on the development of interactional competence that L2 learners of Japanese demonstrate in their ways of engaging in assessment activities. First-encounter conversations that the learners engaged in before and after their one-year study-abroad are compared to those in which learners without study-abroad experience participated.
