About Michael S. Smith

Professor Smith’s areas of research and teaching are modern Europe, especially France, and comparative business history. His publications include articles on French politics and business in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and two books, Tariff Reform in France, 1860-1900: The Politics of Economic Interest (Cornell University Press, 1980), and The Emergence of Modern Business Enterprise in France, 1800-1930 (Harvard University Press, 2006).
