Abstract

"For the Love of Parentheticals – The Story of Parenthetical Usage in Synthesis, Rhetoric, Economics, and Narrative Reasoning" joins the critical conversation on the practical tools needed for legal discourse. The Article examines the rhetorical advantages of the use of parentheticals for explanation of the effects of a synthesis of authorities. I examine parentheticals under the lens of citation usage, synthesis theory, contemporary rhetoric, law and economics, and narrative reasoning theory. This Article follows my work this year and in 2011 on the rhetoric of rule synthesis and explanatory synthesis and the rhetoric of law and economics:
