About Michael Lock

Dr. Michael Lock has held multiple positions including the Chief of the Division of Radiation Oncology,  Associate Scientist with the Lawson Health Research Institute, the Medical Director of the London Regional Cancer Program, Chair of the Breast Cancer Multidisciplinary Disease Site Team, Chair of the Radiation Oncology Provincial Advisory Committee, Co-Chair of the Genitourinary Disease Site Team, Vice-Chair of the Associate Group, and Southwest Regional Radiation Oncology Lead. He is a Professor at Western University in the Schulich School of Medicine. He is cross-appointed as a Professor in the Department of Medical Biophysics. He has undertaken specialized training with the Rotman School of Management through the University of Toronto and Physician Management Institute through the Canadian Medical Association.  He has received multiple awards including the MAC Award which recognizes administrative excellence; and The Human Touch award which recognizes compassionate and holistic aspects of care.
 
Dr. Lock specializes primarily in patients with cancers of the prostate, liver and breast. He has a special interest in the implementation and development of innovative technique including intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT-also called stereotactic ablative radiotherapy SABR). He has specialized training in the use of arc-based high precision therapy, radiobiology, and imaging. This includes fellowship training in Madison Wisconsin with radiation oncology pioneers, Drs. Rock Mackie, Jack Fowler and James Welsh, during the development of the groundbreaking Tomotherapy System (Homepage - Radixact) and was involved in treating the first patient using this system.  He works on global projects for organizations such as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)/United Nations (UN) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This includes medical outreach programs, educational development and program accreditations in regions such as Africa and the Caribbean.
