Abstract

The criticality of both composition and performance specification for coating processes is discussed. Performance specifications are simply a set of test values, based on ASTM, MIL Specs or other similar standards, the coating must attain for qualification. Setting a minimum level for the binder can aid in obtaining quality coatings, and minimum level of hiding pigments can aid in getting paints with adequate hides. A combination of performance and composition is the best approach to specifying coatings.
