Abstract
A village green is the physical and ideological center of Ebenezer Howard's idealistic Garden City development plan, an ideal rendered in a watered‐down form in post‐war British New Towns. This paper presents an analysis of the central narratives in The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society as they embody the tensions between the modernist landscapes and social engineering of post‐war urban development and popular culture.
