Journal of Africana Religions
(2018)
Abstract
In this short essay, I reflect on many of the most significant ways in which J. Lorand Matory's now-classic book Black Atlantic Religion influenced my approach to the study of music and religion in Bahia. Moreover, I present some of what I believe to be the work's larger contributions within the broader scholarly context of its time.
