Abstract
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Customs & Border Protection (CBP) have disclosed limited records in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request submitted about the May 26th 2021 mass-shooting at Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA). As you may be aware, the May 26th 2021 mass-shooting at Santa Clara’s VTA was carried out by Samuel Cassidy: a Caucasian man, born August 29th 1963, who was at the time of the mass-shooting (on May 26th 2021) employed for Santa Clara’s VTA.
The recent disclosures made by the DHS (CBP) in FOIA Request Case No. CBP – 2022 – 041521 show that Samuel James Cassidy [1] had travelled to the Philippines on July 23rd 2016 (and may have wanted to die there); [2] had returned to the United States of America (U.S.A) following his travel to the Philippines on August 08th 2016; [3] was interviewed by agents of the DHS (CBP) upon his arrival at San Francisco International Airport onboard Philippine Airlines flight 114 from Manila, Philippines (on August 08th 2016); [4] has stated during his interview with the DHS (CBP) on August 08th 2016 that he was employed for the Santa Clara VTA and that he hated working there; [5] books and papers were extensively reviewed by the DHS (CBP), who may have made copies of them.
As a matter of principle, the Association for the Advancement of Civil Liberties (AACL) unequivocally condemns the gun violence, which is committed in the United States of America (U.S.A) and elsewhere in the world. In the judgment of the AACL, the May 26th 2021 mass-shooting at Santa Clara’s VTA could have been prevented if Samuel Cassidy had gotten the appropriate mental health care he needed. According to various articles published about Samuel Cassidy’s mental health, he was previously diagnosed as a person, who had bipolar disorder. In 2019, Samuel Cassidy had made $160,000 (one hundred and sixty thousand U.S dollars), while employed for the Santa Clara’s VTA. Given the employment history of Samuel Cassidy at Santa Clara VTA (as well as his 2019 salary), it is the opinion of the AACL that the mass-shooting at Santa Clara’s VTA should have led the State of California to engage in earnest discussions about the systemic white male privilege and entitlement, which is contributing a great deal to the gun violence public health epidemic plaguing the U.S.A. The AACL regrets that such conversations were not had in the State of California and the DHS (CBP).
Be well. Take care. Keep yourselves at arms distance.
