About Melody Lo

Biography

Melody Lo, the Steinmeyer Memorial Endowed Chair of Economics for the Kummer College at Missouri University of Science and Technology (S&T), received her Ph.D. from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University in 2001. Before joining S&T in July 2022, Lo was the Neil Griffin Endowed Business Dean leading the college’s Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) reaccreditation efforts, and then the Senior Advisor to the Chancellor advancing significant university initiatives, including strategic planning and building corporate partnerships for economic development opportunities. Before joining Arkansas State University, Lo served as the department chair of Economics at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 2014 – 2019. Lo was instrumental in building successful industry-focused multidisciplinary graduate degree programs in her chair position, including concentrations in Financial Economics and Business Data Analysis & Forecasting.

As a researcher, Lo’s primary research interest is identifying economic stylized behavioral patterns through quantitative analysis, and a large portion of her recent work is interdisciplinary. For example, she has published articles in journals such as the Journal of Business & Economic Statistics, the American Journal of Political Science, Tourism Management, the Journal of International Money and Finance, and World Development. Along with her published articles in scholarly journals, Lo co-authored a 2021 published interdisciplinary book, “Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models in Political Science,” with Cambridge University Press. She is also a Research Associate at the Hobby School of Public Affairs at the University of Houston. As a teacher, her teaching interests are Financial Economics and Macroeconomics.
