About Melinda Dunmire
Melinda Dunmire directs the law school’s Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, in which student attorneys practice under her supervision the representation of low-income clients before state and federal administrative agencies, and in federal tax litigation in U.S. Tax Court and U.S. District Court. Dunmire is passionate about serving the needs of low-income people and advocating against the systemic barriers that leave this population vulnerable.
She graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law with a Master of Laws in Taxation in 2011, and her Juris Doctor in 2010. While earning her LL.M., she began her career as a hearing officer with the Comptroller of Maryland. She then moved into private practice for a few years before returning to the Comptroller’s Office and the position of assistant to the director.
Dunmire engages in professional and social advocacy on multiple fronts. She is an active member of the Maryland State Bar Association Tax Council, where she chairs various committees. She is a member of the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force legislative subcommittee and Araminta Freedom Initiative’s ad hoc legislative committee. She also volunteers as a mentor for Araminta Freedom Initiative.
