About Melanie Katsivo

 Dr. Katsivo is the past Director, Global Health, at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry where she promoted global health awareness, provided mentorship and developed opportunities for greater participation in global health research for students and faculty at the School. Before that, she was Western’s International Research Officer, Dr. Katsivo continues to undertake these activities city-wide and across all Faculties at Western. In addition to identifying and developing funding opportunities for international and global health research, capacity building and training of HQPs, she helps to build and manage interdisciplinary research teams and strategic international partnerships; contributes strategy and content for proposals; and provides critical reviews. She is particularly passionate about helping to create global teams that are strategic and impactful in addressing global challenges, whilst providing opportunities to train global-ready graduates. Dr. Katsivo represents Western at the Shastri- Indo- Canadian Institutes Members Council and is also Western’s Ambassador for the Association of Commonwealth Universities. Locally she is on the steering committees of 2 community –university initiatives that address mental health (Global Minds @Western) and local –global health equity(Health Equity IDI and CHRESI) and also advisory committee member of  the Center for Culturally-Integrative Response (CCIR) a community initiative that seeks approaches for solving family conflicts in a cultural-sensitive manner.
