About Maya S. Bitar

Maya Bitar, M.D., a fellowship-trained, board-certified cornea specialist, is an assistant professor of ophthalmology. Bitar’s interests include dry eye syndrome, keratoconus, Fuchs’ dystrophy, pterygium, ocular surface neoplasia, corneal transplantation, cataract surgery and refractive surgery.

Bitar earned her medical degree from Jesuit Saint-Joseph University in Beirut, Lebanon. She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Schepens Eye Research Institute at Harvard Medical School in Boston; an ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky; a pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois at Chicago; and a cornea fellowship at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
