About Maxime Grand

Max is a chemical oceanographer and analytical chemist who joined Moss Landing Marine Laboratories in the summer of 2018. Max obtained his Ph.D. in Oceanography at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 2014, where he studied the distributions of dissolved Fe and Al in the Indian Ocean and pioneered the application of micro Sequential Injection to the analysis of trace metals at sub-nanomolar levels in seawater. His research is primarily focused on the chemical, physical and biological processes that impact the distribution of bioactive trace metals (e.g., Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu), tracers (e.g., Al) and nutrients (N, P, Si) in coastal and open-ocean regimes. In addition, he has a special interest in developing and applying novel in situ microfluidic instrumentation to improve the spatial and temporal resolution of chemical observations in the marine environment.
