About Maxim Panov

Dr. Maxim Panov is an assistant professor in the Machine Learning Department at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI).

Biography

Dr. Panov began his career at DATADVANCE Company in 2010 as a research scientist. There, he contributed in developing the library of data analysis techniques for engineering applications. Many businesses throughout the world, including Airbus, Porsche, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Limagrain, now use this library, pSeven. Dr. Panov managed a statistical machine learning group while serving as an assistant professor at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology in Moscow starting in 2018. He is the head of the Technology Innovation Institute's AI theory and algorithms group in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, since 2022. Dr. Panov has been awarded funding from several public and private organizations. In addition to the Skoltech Faculty Excellence Award in 2022, he was given the Moscow Government Award for Young Scientists in 2018. In the Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence 2023 conference, he also took home the Best Paper Runner-up Award. Panov is as an associate editor for the Journal of Statistical Planning and Inference.

Dr. Panov’s current research is focused on uncertainty quantification for machine learning model predictions, Bayesian approaches in machine learning, and graph analytics. The emphasis is on the theoretical grounds of the developed methods, their computational efficiency, and practical applicability to computer vision, natural language processing and other problems.
