About Max Nielsen-Pincus

Dr. Nielsen-Pincus is a new member of the ESM faculty in Fall 2013. As a social scientist Dr. Nielsen-Pincus conducts research to understand how social institutions and human behavior bear on landscape and environmental change. His research applies training in sociology, economics, and policy to environmental challenges such as land use change, climate change adaptation, wildfire and hazardous fuels management, and watershed restoration.

Prior to joining the ESM faculty at PSU, Dr. Nielsen-Pincus was on the research faculty at the University of Oregon’s Institute for a Sustainable Environment and Department of Planning, Public Policy, and management where his work focused on research related to natural resource-based sustainable development in rural and urban-interface communities in the American West and teaching natural resource policy.
