About Maud Low

Maud (Beeching) Low did her undergraduate studies at Simmons College, in Boston, MA, double majoring in Nursing and Women’s Studies. There, she received the first Charlotte Perkins Gilman Award in Women’s Studies and Departmental honors in both majors. She then practiced in high-risk obstetrics and ambulatory gynecology in Connecticut prior to returning to Boston College for an MSN in Women’s Health Nursing. This degree prepared her for certification as a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner. Low has worked in this role on and off throughout her career. In addition, she has held Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nursing Education Specialist and faculty positions in New England and the greater Washington, D.C., area. She has taught day long conferences and presented at national meetings. She has several publications on Women’s Health topics and has edited journals, as well as holding offices in professional organizations. She currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UMASS, Amherst School of Nursing where she teaches obstetrical, mental health, and community health nursing. Low stays current in clinical practice by working as a staff nurse in both obstetrical and mental health nursing. Low is currently enrolled in the UMASS, Amherst Nursing PhD program, with a focus on fostering self-nurturing in nurses.
