About Matthew Tullis

Matt Tullis is an assistant professor of English and the director of the Digital Journalism program. He is the author of Running With Ghosts: A Memoir of Surviving Childhood Cancer, which was published by The Sager Group in August 2017. Tullis is also the host and producer of Gangrey: The Podcast, which focuses on narrative journalism and the reporters who write it.
Tullis was a newspaper reporter for 10 years before joining academia. His final daily newspaper job was at the Columbus Dispatch. He has also written for regional and city magazines, as well as trade publications. From 2012 to 2016, he was a regular contributor to SB Nation Longform, a site devoted to literary sports journalism. Two of his pieces for that site were noted in Best American Sports Writing, and one was noted in Best American Essays. He is also an associate editor for River Teeth: A Journal of Nonfiction Narrative
He has an MFA in creative nonfiction from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and a BA in journalism/English from Ashland University.
