Brian Eno Bloom App Preservation Study
(2017)
Abstract
This is a project developed at the 2017 Digital Humanities Summer Institute to explore a documentation approach to preserving proprietary mobile applications. Matt Schultz investigated how to preserve a first-generation iOS generative music app that was designed by the famous Brian Eno. The app is known as Bloom. This research is an extension of research looking into preserving data locked into cloud platforms. This is just a first phase proof-of-concept approach. It includes a platform and code study, and a media and textual analysis.
