Melodie Schwarz, RN, of the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey wrote that in her work with longterm, chronic clients in an urban community mental health center, she often administers long-acting depot injections of antipsychotics. She asked a series of questions about injection techniques and the indications for using these preparations. As we looked into these issues, we found some interesting variations among clinicians regionally and nationally.
