Placental abruption is usually diagnosed clinically with the aid of ultrasonography. Computerized tomography (CT) is not the typical mode of diagnosis. Shown is an image section from an abdominal CT with intravenous contrast of a 21-year-old woman, 27 weeks pregnant, involved in a motor vehicle collision. Physical examination on presentation was significant for lower abdominal tenderness.
