Abstract
Introduction
Improving patient outcomes is a focus for health care institutions globally.

Finding a solution to maintain excitement, focus and excellent outcomes has become a challenge for nursing leaders, also within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Implementing EBP in all areas of nursing, i.e. clinical, leadership and management and professional development has been a central drive for the hospital in their quest towards their first Magnet® Accreditation in 2013.

Aim
To outline the structures and processes underlying implementation of Evidence Based Practice and demonstrate processes and outcomes

Methods
A multi-layered approach was applied with at core, engagement of clinical bedside staff being in the best position to drive changes in practices resulted in empowerment. The role of Nursing Practice&Quality Committee, Divisional Practice Councils and Unit Councils are highlighted in bringing about the changes.

Results
Clinical Outcomes showed marked improved over time as nurses identified gaps, and through informed decision-making implemented changes. A culture of inquiry of "what is best practice" has been established driving nursing practice changes.

Conclusion
Change is always challenging. This journey has demonstrated if the "right" people are engaged at the "right" time and empowered to make the "right" decisions at the "right" time, the outcomes are far reaching and successful

Implication for Nursing
This presentation highlights the challenges, lessons and rewards as an outcome of implementing Evidence Based Practice as a "Golden Thread" in a tertiary hospital in Saudi Arabia.
