About Mary Waldo, PhD, RN, APRN, GCNS-BC, CPHQ

Mary Waldo is an experienced advanced practice nurse specializing in the field of gerontology. She is also a published scholar who has been a featured speaker in a number of conferences and is known nationally for her work in the field.  She defines herself as board certified clinical nurse concerned with the physical and spiritual needs of a population that has often been forgotten.

When asked when she decided to become a nurse caring for the elderly, she will respond from the age of nine. So great is her devotion professionally and personally that she combines both of her passions, nursing and faith, into her professional life as a faith community nurse. She consistently demonstrates a love of caring for older adults especially those afflicted by dementia and has always been of key support for their “families”.

Over the course of her Mary has held a host of roles to include her present role as Director of Professional Practice, Providence St. Joseph Health Oregon Region (PHSOR) where she is part of the team responsible for patient outcomes and designs and implements standards of practice development. She also serves as a gerontological content expert. She has worked as assistant and adjunct professors teaching an array of courses such as Evidence Based Practice, Leadership and developed undergraduate medical surgical and gerontology courses, and graduate courses in research.

Mary has published and presented on topics ranging from ‘Clinical Nurse Specialist Roles in Conducting Research to Malnutrition in hospitalized adult patients’. Her scholarly work features her faith based orientation which encompasses volunteering for the Northwest Faith Community Ministries and sitting on the Board of Directors, Instructor for Basic Faith Community Nursing Courses and Coordinator Courses, EBP as well as assuming a prominent position on national workgroups such as High Value Health Care Collaborative, NACNS Malnutrition Promotion of Optimal Nutrition Status Taskforce and as co-facilitator of the Gerontological Special Interest Group.
