Abstract

Taylor et al suggest that alkaline phosphatase (ALP) may be a useful screening test for rickets with X-rays defining the diagnosis. Other authors have found that screening for ALP is of little diagnostic value. Also, Taylor et al erroneously assume that a normal ALP excludes the diagnosis of rickets. The diagnosis of subclinical rickets can be problematic.
