About Marty Downey

Dr. Marty Downey has been a member of the nursing faculty at Boise State University since 1993. She holds a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) from Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, an M.S. in nursing education from Idaho State University, and completed her Ph.D. in adult education with an emphasis in organizational leadership from the University of Idaho in 2006. She is nationally certified in critical care nursing (CCRN) and is also a board certified advanced holistic nurse (AHN-BC). Her dissertation research included the education and use of complementary therapies such as massage, imagery, therapeutic touch, acupuncture, and aromatherapy by Idaho nurses in personal and professional practice. Dr. Downey's teaching includes clinical preparation for nursing students at local medical centers, medical-surgical concepts, health assessment, lab values, and holistic nursing practices along with complementary and alternative health practices. She also teaches stress management, and humor in health, to health care organizations and within the community.
