About Marti Shirley

Marti Shirley has been working at IMSA since the Fall 2018 semester. Prior to coming to IMSA, they taught at Mattoon High School as the 9th-grade Curriculum & SEL Leader and serving as a facilitator for the Math department. Before that, they taught at Lake Park High School in Roselle, Illinois across 3 departments: Business, Computer Science and Mathematics. It was here that they created and built a computer science program, ranging from introductory courses in multiple languages, AP courses, and game design.

As a faculty member at IMSA, Marti continues to be interested in computer science and serves as the advisor for clubs such as EPOCH (Focuses on sharing computational knowledge and hardware, through running a computational cluster to extend the education of machine learning and other computationally intensive fields as a means if intellectual discovery), and the Society of Women Engineers. Marti extended their interests to outreach programs since coming to IMSA, working with the PROMISE program as the math curriculum coordinator and by teaching the 8th & 9th-grade math programs.

In their personal time, Marti enjoys board/card games, reading, and spending time with her son Nicholas.
