About Martha Marquez

Martha Gonzalez Marquez, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Therapy. She spent six years as a faculty and Associate at the Gainesville Family Institute, a post graduate training program in Gainesville Florida, specializing in the Oppression Sensitive Model of Family Therapy developed by Dr.'s Andres Nazario, Jr., Herb Steier and Gina Early. The nine years preceding her full-time position here at NSU she spent as an adjunct professor while cultivating a private practice. Dr. Marquez has a special interest in issues of social justice, culture and diversity as well as inclusion. She has presented locally and nationally and has published chapters utilizing the Cultural Awareness model developed through her research. Other areas of interest for Dr. Marquez include work with couples, sexuality in relationships, supervision, and ethical and professional issues. She currently maintains a private practice in Weston specializing in relationship issues and couples.
Dr. Marquez has been dedicated to service in her profession by participating on local, state and national positions. She has served as treasurer and board member of the North Central Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and as Board member, Diversity Chair and Ethics Committee Chair for the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Dr. Marquez has served on the Standards Committee and Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. During her last two years on the COAMFTE she served as Chair-Elect and Chair.
