About Mr. MOORE, Marshall Sidney

Following a fifteen-year career as an American Sign Language interpreter, Marshall changed careers almost a decade ago and began teaching. He started out in Korea and taught various English courses at Hanshin University in the suburbs of Seoul before relocating to Hong Kong in 2008. Marshall has come to Lingnan after being the English Language Team Leader at Yew Chung Community College, where he managed all aspects of the school’s English program. He has also worked for CityU and Savannah College of Art and Design. His area of specialization is writing -- academic as well as creative. His PhD research focuses on ghost stories in both the Chinese and the Western traditions, as well as on the mechanics of horror fiction and the nature and limitations of genre. On the linguistics side, he is interested in second-language acquisition, phonetics, and World Englishes. Other areas of interest include travel writing and the way that digital technology is transforming the publishing industry.

Marshall is a published author, with three novels and three collections of short fiction in print. With Xu Xi, the Writer-in-Residence at CityU, he is the co-editor of The Queen of Statue Square: New Short Fiction from Hong Kong (Nottingham: Critical, Cultural & Communications Press, 2014). He has published dozens of short stories, essays, and reviews, and his work has been translated into Greek and Italian.

He also has a really great cat, the Fur Bomb.
