About Mark Ryan

After graduating from Swarthmore College in 1994 (BA Religion and English), Dr. Ryan spent a year teaching in East Harlem in New York City while also pursuing interests in theater. Following an interest in theology and social justice, he entered graduate school at the University of Virginia (PhD, 2006) in 1997 to study religious ethics in relation to law and public policy. While there he discovered the “return to virtue” in moral philosophy and theological ethics, a discovery that has deeply influenced his research since. Having come to the University of Dayton in 2014 as a lecturer in Christian ethics, he now teaches and researches at the intersection of Christian ethics and business practices.
