About Marion Lloyd

Marion Lloyd is a higher education researcher at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a former foreign correspondent in Latin America and South Asia for The Boston Globe, Houston Chronicle and The Chronicle of Higher Education. She is currently chief project coordinator at the General Directorate for Institutional Evaluation at UNAM and a member of the university´s Seminario de Educación Superior (Higher Education Research Group). She holds a BA in English and Romance Languages and Literature from Harvard University and a Master´s degree in Latin American Studies from UNAM. She is currently undergoing a PhD program in Political and Social Sciences at UNAM, with a focus on sociology.
Her research interests include: comparative higher education in Latin America, with a particular focus on Mexico and Brazil; the impact and methodology of the international university rankings; affirmative action in the United States and Brazil; government policies on higher education and science and technology; and the internationalization of higher education. She reports on many of those issues in her monthly column in Campus Milenio, the higher education supplement of the Mexican daily Milenio.
