Abstract
Austrian law and economics is first and foremost a framework of analysis. It is not in itself a set of substantive conclusions about law or legal processes. Although the various authors writing in this tradition have arrived at substantive conclusions, these can change within the broad parameters of the framework. The dual purposes of this chapter are to sketch the essential features of the Austrian framework or method of analysis, and to situate it within the field of law and economics more generally. The essential and distinctive feature of the Austrian school of law and economics is its emphasis on both economic and legal processes.
