Abstract

The effects of nitrogen on the magnetic properties of non-grain-oriented Si-steel was examined using a vacuum sampling method that closely simulates the solidification conditions of an industrial twin roll thin strip casting (TRSC) process. Samples with varying levels of nitrogen were processed and tested. The magnetic property performance decreased as nitrogen increased and then stabilized with further increases in nitrogen. No changes in the final processed grain size were observed with changing amounts of nitrogen.
