About Marina E. Eremeeva

Biography, Disciplines and Teaching Interests

Biography: Dr. Marina E. Eremeeva is Professor of Environmental Sciences and the Director of the Public Health Core Laboratory.  She is a microbiologist and a biochemist by training. Inn her career she has worked on various aspects of medical entomology, tick biology and vector-borne diseases, and public health microbiology. She brings more than 25 years of experience in different aspects of emerging zoonotic and vector-borne infectious diseases, BSL-3 select agents, bioterrorism preparedness and BT-risk assessment. Dr. Eremeeva has worked in both academic and government institutions in Russia, France and USA including the WHO Reference Center for Rickettsioses in Marseille and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta. Dr. Eremeeva has received training and certification for work in BSL-3 laboratories from the National Biocontainment Training Center and serves as the GSU Biosafety Officer. Dr. Eremeeva trained more than 50 individuals, including physicians, veterinarians and public health professionals in various laboratory techniques and protocols and their applications for clinical and field studies. She has worked internationally and served as an invited faculty and organizer of training workshops in China, St. Kitts-Nevis, Guatemala, Tunisia, Haiti, and India. Dr. Eremeeva serves as an Associate Editor for New Microbes and New Infections, Heliyon Microbiology and Frontiers Public Health Epidemiology, serves on grant panel reviews for the National Institutes of Health and Department of Defense, and as an AdHoc reviewer for numerous professional journals. Dr. Eremeeva’ current research interests are cellular and immunological aspects of microbial pathogenesis, molecular epidemiology and exposure assessment to vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, evaluation of anthropogenic impacts on the occurrence and incidence of vector-borne diseases in rural and urban settings, technology transfer and building international laboratory capacity. Her research projects are currently supported by extramural grants from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and private laboratories. She is an author of more than 120 publications, including peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.
