About Marileda Tomé

Marileda Tomé is a professor of Speech-Language Pathology at Andrews University. She graduated from Federal University of Santa Maria in Brazil in 1994 with a Bachelor of Speech-Language Pathology. In 1998, she graduated from the Federal University of Santa Maria  (UFSM) with her Master in Rehabilitation Science with emphasis on Communication Disorders Science. She received her Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Science with emphasis on Human Communication Disorders in 2006 from Federal University of Sao Paulo (USP).
Before joining the Andrews University School of Communication Sciences & Disorders faculty, Dr. Tomé worked as a professor at the University of Itajai Valley (Univali). She has 27 yeasr of experience in rehabilitation of human communication disorders, working as professor and clinician in a private practice in Brazil. She worked with infants, toddlers, and adults in the areas of speech, myofunctional therapy, voice and swallowing disorders. Her research areas of interest include speech sound disorders related with structural problems, voice, myofunctional therapy, and public health issues in the field of SLP.
