Review of A Troubled See: Memoirs Of A Derry Bishop by Edward DalyCanadian Journal of Irish Studies (2011)
A Troubled See is the second of two memoirs by Edward Daly, one of the most iconic religious figures in Northern Ireland's history. In his first, Hey Mister, Are you a Priest? Daly narrated his childhood in County Fermanagh, seminary years, and life and work as a young priest in Derry's Bogside, home to some of the most pronounced social and economic inequalities in Northern Irish society and a hub for the civil rights movement and early Troubles. A Troubled See picks up the narrative in 1974 with his episcopal ordination and recounts key moments and events in Derry, in Northern Ireland, and within the Catholic Church over the ensuing thirty-odd years.
