Making Your Online Program More Accessible to Students: Breaking Barriers, Adopting Open Resources, and Lowering Textbook Pricing
Faculty and Staff Institute
  • Margaret Adeogun, Andrews University
Abstract

The issue of textbook affordability and accessibility is central to the success of any online learning program. Open Textbooks, openly licensed and free to access at no cost, are affordable alternatives to expensive textbooks. Because they are digital and open, they are available worldwide without geographical restrictions. Students enrolled in distance education programs are free to access them at home/work. The flexibility of access to Open Textbooks increases the opportunity for greater enrolment in online learning programs.
