About Marc Nahmani

I am a research scientist, teacher and mentor, passionate about exploring the therapeutic potential of plasticity mechanisms within the developing brain to re-engineer adaptive connections following neuronal injury and degeneration in adults. My lab focuses on questions at intersection of neuronal structure and function - we seek to understand how the nano-scale anatomical components of synapses lend themselves to specific physiological features of neuronal communication, and how these synaptic components impact the development of the brain and its ability to recover from injury. My lab also continues to work to advance a range of microscopy and electrophysiogical techniques, such as cryogenic single particle localization microscopy.
I teach upper level courses within the Biomedical Sciences Major (e.g. Sensory Systems Neuroscience, Cellular Biology, Human Physiology) as well as our Introductory Biology series and research-based courses. In addition, I direct the mentoring program within the UWT ACCESS in STEM scholarship program for our amazing first and second-year UWT student scholars.
