About Malou Chantal Harrison

A native of the Caribbean island of Jamaica, Malou C. Harrison currently serves as President of Miami Dade College's North Campus (an enrollment of 50,000 students per year) in addition to MDC's two academic centers, MDC-West and the Entrepreneurial Educational Center. Harrison's 30 year professional career is marked by her service leadership in support of the underserved coupled with her active role in advocating for, and leading initiatives that promote student success and completion. Her dissertation contributes to a scarce body of work that exists on the Black male community college student. Particularly, her research uses an anti deficit framework to give voice to successful Black male college students at a community college. More broadly, her work is her expression of a genuine yearning to dismiss negative stereotypes around the intellectual capacity of Black men and their desire to live as contributing members of society.
