About Malcolm Thorburn

I am an associate professor of law at Queen's University, Kingston, Canada where I hold a Canada Research Chair in Crime, Security and Constitutionalism. I received my BA and JD from the University of Toronto, my MA from the University of Pennsylvania and my LLM and JSD from Columbia Law School where I studied with George Fletcher, Jeremy Waldron and Kent Greenawalt.
My research is focused on the philosophy of crime, punishment and policing. I have published on criminal law and political theory, policing, sentencing theory and the nature of justification defences in criminal law.
