The article discusses the significance of the Pennypack Creek watershed study as a national and state model to resolve the complicated multijurisdictional problems in relation to flooding issue in the U.S. The project focuses on updating the map that identifies additional areas within the 100-year floodplain boundaries that were previously not indicated on the existing Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) which is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2006. Lastly, the map will help FIRM distinguish the actual families living in the high-risk flood zones for purpose of flood insurance policies.
