The Cinematic and Historic Weight of 'The Stone of Destiny'
Studies in Popular Culture
(2010)
Abstract
The film Stone of Destiny is perceived differently among the nations that had a hand in its production. Because it was filmed in Scotland using U.K. film lottery funds, some critics expect it to be a nationalist film. However, audiences and backers from other nations may see the film very differently. The way that this film tries to balance both historic significance and cinematic entertainment illustrates issues created from conflicting critical and popular expectations.
