About Lynley Wallis

Lynley comes from Noongar country in southwest WA Holding a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of WA and a PhD from the Australian National University. She joined Nulungu Research Institute at Notre Dame University in March 2016 with a long standing interest in Indigenous heritage and a commitment to collaborative research partnerships with communities. She has previously worked at James Cook University, for the ACT Government and for the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. She was also employed as a Senior Lecturer in archaeology at Flinders University (Adelaide) between 2005 and 2009, before moving to Brisbane to take up a Senior Research Fellow position in the Aboriginal Environments Research Centre at the University of Queensland for several years, and then ran her own heritage consulting business.

Community Engagement:
Lynley is a life member of the Australian Archaeological Association, having served as a President of the Association from 2009-2011. She also holds memberships with the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Incorporated (AACAI). She is currently the Vice-President of AACAI, having served as the National President from 2013-2015. For a 3.5 year period she was the Co-Editor (with Assoc. Prof. Heather Burke) of the national journal 'Australian Archaeology'.
