About Luiz Amaral

I am an assistant professor of Hispanic Linguistics in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. I work with Second Language Acquisition, Intelligent Computer-Assisted Language Learning (ICALL), and Syntax. I recently started a project with bilingual speakers of native Brazilian languages, and I have been very interested in exploring possible interfaces between language acquisition, bilingual education and native language documentation and maintenance. For more information about my research projects visit my research page. I am currently the Spanish and Portuguese graduate program director and the Portuguese language program coordinator.
