Abstract
In 2003, the American Academy of Pediatrics revealed that 30% of American children are overweight or obese, and an additional 30% of children are at high risk for becoming obese. Strategies that pediatric nurses can use to prepare themselves and their work environment for the perioperative care of these obese children and their families are needed. The nursing literature does not disclose whether or not pediatric nurses deliver perioperative care differently when they know their patient is obese. Therefore, this nursing research collaborative aimed at investigating the care delivered to these special children.
