Abstract
The qualities of warmth, empathy and genuineness in therapists have been found to correlate with positive outcome in treatment. Conversely, the absence of these conditions in the parent-child relationship has been suggested as a contributing factor to emotional disturbance in children. This article argues that by helping child care workers learn the use of these conditions in their everyday contact with children, we can improve the therapeutic potential of children's treatment centers.
