Abstract

The rise in the number of college students seeking mental health services has led to a need for college campuses to address this issue. In this pedagogical prime essay, I describe a novel seminar style course to teaching stress management skills to undergraduate freshmen students, majoring in different disciplines. These stress management tools include deep breathing, yoga instruction, modifying self-talk, and strengthening communication skills. This essay may also benefit professors interested in integrating stress management tools into their courses. Future research is recommended to ascertain the effectiveness of a stand-alone freshmen stress management course compared to other modes of instruction.
