Abstract

Lisa P. Smith, Wendy L. Chambers, Georgia Southern University The purpose of this presentation is to share the accomplishments and challenges of revamping a longstanding FYE orientation course. Faculty and staff members at Georgia Southern University have recently been involved in a collaborative effort to make a significant modification to our FYE orientation course, to include an academic, theme-based seminar. Seminar themes vary according to the interests of each instructor. Students are required to enroll in one of the seminars but can choose any particular seminar topic that interests them. A key objective of the new seminar is to focus on the development of information literacy skills. Toward this end, interactive learning modules have been developed and are being utilized in a number of sections of this new course.
