Abstract
Much of what we know about crime and victimization tells us that the risk of victimization is not the same for everyone. Characteristics of victims (e.g., age, sex, disability status) and their environment (e.g., poverty, rurality) (as well as other characteristics) can impact their level of risk for victimization. As such, there may be different risk levels of abuse, neglect, and exploitation (ANE) across people with disabilities based on their type of disability and their environment. Towards that end, this report discusses in detail the prevalence of disabilities among Idaho’s population of adults in relation to national prevalence, a set of comparison states in the U.S., and states in the Mountain West (MW). Our purpose in contrasting these groups is to set the stage for identifying whether Idaho’s population of people living with disabilities is substantively different from other similar states and those in the MW.
