Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (2018)
  • Lindsay Nash, Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law
Abstract
Current enforcement policies have heavily impacted immigrant communities in the United States and the treatment of individuals seeking refuge at our borders. This program examines the complex--and increasingly harsh--immigration policies in the current era of enforcement, their effect on the social and emotional lives of immigrants, and the ways that advocates from multiple disciplines can work together to serve those communities. This event will include a discussion of the underlying immigration policy and its psychosocial implications. The panel will include a series of perspectives including from an asylum-seeking mother who was detained with her child as a result of current enforcement policies, and from law and social work students who worked with this woman and other clients pursuing their cases while experiencing the effects of extreme trauma. In addition to the students and the mother, Dr. Nancy L. Beckerman, a Full Professor at the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and Director of Faculty Development at Yeshiva University and Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor Lindsay Nash will speak.
